Dr. Paul Friedman and Dr. Elizabeth Geddes at Dermatology & Laser Surgery Center utilize the FDA-approved CoolSculpting® technique to reduce excess fat pockets in a range of body areas.

Houston, TX – For many people, even the most rigorous diet and exercise routines cannot eliminate all areas of excess fat. In fact, it’s very common for stubborn pockets of fat to accumulate in a variety of body areas, no matter how healthy and otherwise fit the individual may be. Surgical procedures such as liposuction are often effective solutions to address these concerns; however, a non-surgical alternative called CoolSculpting® is becoming more popular for many patients looking to recontour their bodies without invasive surgery or excessive downtime. Dr. Paul M. Friedman, a New York City and Houston dermatologist, says CoolSculpting® can reduce stubborn, excess fat in areas of the body such as the arms, abdomen, back, thighs, and love handles with excellent results.

Using a technique developed by Harvard scientists called Cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting® is designed to cool excess fat cells in the areas targeted for treatment without harming surrounding tissues. A special device is placed on the target area and creates a light, vacuum-like pressure. The treated fat cells will begin to shrink and break down, and the body will then filter them out through natural processes over the ensuing months.

Dr. Friedman says CoolSculpting® offers a variety of benefits, including:

Dr. Friedman notes that most patients are able to resume normal daily activities right after the CoolSculpting® procedure. He says patients generally need only one or two treatment sessions to reach their goals, depending on the size and number of target areas and the patient’s desired results.

While not all patients will be candidates for CoolSculpting®, Dr. Friedman says the FDA-approved procedure has helped many individuals gradually eliminate fat deposits that have proven resistant to traditional weight loss methods. Furthermore, he explains, the treatment often creates modest liposuction-like results without the discomfort and inconvenience associated with recovery from major surgery.
