If you are seeking an effective treatment for smoother, healthier skin, Fraxel laser treatment could be the solution. This innovative technology allows for the elimination of pigmented cells on the skin’s surface while stimulating collagen production at the same time; leading to firmer, smoother, and younger-looking skin.1 Our Houston-area patients love the Fraxel laser because it is used to treat a variety of conditions including the correction of wrinkles, acne scarring, stretch marks, age spots, and other skin discolorations.

How Does Fraxel Work?

Fraxel relies on non-ablative fractional laser technology that emits tiny beams of light that cause micro-injuries to the treated skin while surrounding tissue remains intact. This removes damaged layers of skin cells, and the micro-damage caused by the Fraxel laser initiates a healing response from the body, leading to increased production of collagen and elastin so that tighter, firmer, and more youthful skin is revealed.

Fraxel re:store and the newer generation Fraxel DUAL lasers offer a combination of the 1550 and 1927 wavelengths in one non-ablative laser. The 1550 laser is ideal for treating wrinkles and scars, as it penetrates deep into the skin. The 1927 is a more gentle laser, and is used to treat signs of aging like uneven skin tone and texture.2

Why Choose Fraxel?

In the past, people seeking laser treatment of skin conditions had to choose between ablative and non-ablative laser treatments. Whereas ablative techniques gave superior results for the correction of aged and sun-damaged skin, they had significant side effects, including significant discomfort, prolonged healing time, and greater possibility of infection. In contrast, non-ablative techniques have few risks, and little downtime. Fraxel laser is the first non ablative fractional skin resurfacing treatment approved by the FDA.3

Benefits of Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing

Fraxel laser treatments provide our patients with a wide range of benefits, including:

Preparing for Fraxel

It is important to avoid sun exposure and to be diligent in applying sunscreen for several weeks prior to your Fraxel appointment. In your consultation discussion, please discuss your skincare routine and any medications you take, as you may need to adjust your skincare products leading up to your appointment.

Fraxel Recovery

After Fraxel treatment, you may apply make-up immediately and minimal recovery time is needed: many people go back to work the next day. You will experience a mild sunburn feeling for as much as an hour after the procedure, but once this subsides you will most likely feel little discomfort. The skin on the treated areas may be pinkish for three to five days after treatment. There may be minimal swelling that will subside in two to four days. Your skin may be bronzed and may flake in a fashion consistent with a minor sunburn.

Be sure to use sunscreen at least twice daily post-treatment to protect your sensitive skin from sun exposure during the healing process. To get lasting results, continue to use sunscreen from the next few months, and consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat when out in the sun.
